We’ve Moved to Our New Location

The thing that has most surprised me about moving into our new space is my renewed enthusiasm for practice. This was the biggest unexpected jolt for me personally. I knew that moving from being a renter in my old space to owning the new space was a good business decision, but, I didn’t really expect that it would feel as good as it has to do it. Knowing that something is the right decision and then following through creates congruence, and allows closure.

Moving had another somewhat surprising effect that everyone talks about when they move houses, but, little is written about it regarding how it affects your business when moving. We have been doing some spring cleaning that I don’t think really happens until you empty every cabinet, every drawer, and every shelf. You are really faced with the questions: —‘do I still need this?’ —’do we still use this?’ —’should we keep this?’ Obviously, when people move they always ask themselves these questions relating to their personal belongings, clothes, old trinkets. But, we’ve been applying that same level of scrutiny to the detritus of the office and we have —sold and given away (mostly on FB Marketplace) —thrown away —repurposed —reallocated —reorganized a tremendous load of stuff.

Finding a new rhythm has been more subtle. The staff has conglomerated around the act of moving, and going through the work of breaking down and then reconstituting the new space. That co-working has been really beautiful. Having a shared goal has real benefits beyond the movement of the office and dental equipment itself.

The new address (3624 North Hills Dr, C102, Austin, TX 78731) is somewhat of a homecoming for me since I grew up in Northwest Hills. I went to school right up the hill at Doss Elementary and nearby at Murchison Middle School. So, I have had some warm feelings about coming back to the neighborhood.
